Self-esteem is incredibly important for young women - your relationship with others and the outside world simply reflects how you feel about yourself. Nurture your most important asset by:
1. Thinking larger
Instead of focusing on yourself and what you would like to change or what isn't perfect about your life, pursue a passion or support a cause: this could be as simple as organizing vaccinations for children in your community, or as all-encompassing as a campaign for peace in a far-flung country. Once you get involved with improving other people's lives, you will realize that you feel good about yourself without even noticing it!
2. Pleasing yourself
Instead of looking for approval from others, or trying to get others to like you, try this: once a week, do something YOU want to do and try to not consider what others think. Start off small things, and then you will have the courage to move to other things. For example, you could go alone to a film that you really want to see, even though your boyfriend doesn't want to go.
